BERAU PARTICIPATORY WELLFARE ASSESSMENT
Anama Consulting supported the implementation of a Participatory Wellbeing Assessment (PWA) project in Berau Regency in collaboration with Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara (YKAN), aimed at capturing community-defined perspectives on wellbeing in the context of conservation and sustainable development initiatives. The project focused on understanding how local communities perceive changes in their quality of life, including dimensions such as livelihood security, access to natural resources, social relations, and environmental conditions. By grounding the assessment in local definitions of wellbeing, Anama ensured that the findings were both contextually relevant and directly useful for program improvement.
Applying a participatory and qualitative approach, Anama facilitated community workshops, focus group discussions, and participatory scoring exercises to enable communities to articulate their own indicators of wellbeing and assess changes over time. Strong emphasis was placed on inclusive engagement, ensuring representation from diverse groups, including women and vulnerable populations. Through this process, Anama was able to generate rich, community-driven insights that informed adaptive management, strengthened stakeholder ownership, and supported more responsive and impactful interventions in Berau.
